IMO and legislation

The Pilotage Act and the corresponding Order on the use of pilots make the use of a pilot mandatory for certain vessels for a number of geographical areas.

Additionally there is a number of international recommendations regarding pilotage. These recommendations are issued by the IMO (the International Maritime Organisation, a UN-organization) and contain several recommendations on the use of a pilot, also on transit of Danish territorial waters.
